I'm listening to this show from Winterland, as it is an historic one, and finding out some interesting tidbits of info regarding it. First, it was announced as "Jerry Garcia and Friends" and in fact was the band itself. Bill Graham does not introduce them as GD but as Jerry,Mickey,Billy, etc. This being during their "hiatus" when they played only a handful of shows,as benefits or the like, and recorded the "Allah" album.. Another note I made was that this was the first performance of Crazy Fingers and the Help>Slipknot!>Franklin's(which ended the first set). The Help had no vocals being that,I believe, there were no finalized lyrics as of that date.Slipknot was played once previously on 6-20-74(between Eyes and China Doll). Also, the Blues for Allah in set II was the fourth of five times it was performed. The Stronger Than Dirt was played just six times, according to Deadbase, and this was the third. Love the slow and sweet Peggy-O from this show. It may just be my favorite rendition. Check it out!

a new source for this show showed up at the archive the other day. I believe a new matrix using this source is here as well.

Love that the opened with the Crazy Fingers. Always thought it took some kind chutzpah to open shows with songs no one ever heard. Especially one that doesn't really sound like anything they had previously performed. Same opening 2-26-77 with Terrapin. That must have been a mind blowing experience for the folks in the crowd.

Oops, SkyDawg pointed out this source the other day.

Now that's doing your homework!

You get a frickin Gold Star.

Just like the two snipers that dropped in The Mog with certain death awaiting them. If only they had more ammo. Nonetheless, we, Durant, and all, certainly owe them their medals of honor.

OK, sorry for that diversion, but you have to admit those two fellows deserve our thanks.

Thanks for noticing elbow. I couldn't believe nobody checked out these new sources or commented on them. The new sources are a major upgrade of an excellent show from a year that sported only 4 shows, all of them excellent.

I still think this is the only Crazy Fingers where the band did two separate theme jams between the verses (usually just one). It blows all the others away in my opinion..although definitely speak up if you know of another Crazy Fingers with two jams on the main theme.

One of my first shows...in the 70s tapes circulated on which I could hear myself and other friends when yelling between songs...silly, but our claim to fame...

Peggy and Crazy both stood out.

Kingfish was great this night; almost as good as March 76 show in LA (Roxy).
